Despite being low maintenance, composite doors require a little care from time-to-time. Regularly cleaning your composite door can help to prevent a buildup of dirt and grime and keep it working effectively, as well as looking flawless. Here’s how to bring your composite door back to life:
Start by creating a soapy solution. Mix a mild detergent in a bucket of warm water.
It’s best to perform a small patch test to make sure the solution is suitable, so start by giving a concealed area of the door a wipe. If the door discolours or you notice any changes, use an alternative.
To clean your composite door, use your soft bristled brush to lightly wipe away any debris.
Then, wash down the front with a wet cloth and soapy water. Avoid using an abrasive sponge or cloth, and scrubbing the door because it could scratch and damage it. Keep the door open when washing it so that you can access any concealed areas that may have gathered dirt.
If you still notice dirt on the door, repeat this step until it’s clean.
Using the soapy water solution and soft cloth, clean the accessories including the handles and letterbox.
Once the door is clean on one side, start drying the door using a clean dry cloth. Leave it open to get some air.
Once you’ve finished the front of the door, repeat the process on the other side.
Using a clean wet cloth and soapy water, polish the glass on your door. Use a bit of elbow grease to remove any stains or dirt.
Once your door is clean, finish by buffing the glass using a soft and dry cloth to make it shine.
Note: When cleaning your composite door, don’t use harsh chemicals like bleach because it can damage and discolour it.
It’s best to check your door once a month and wipe away any dirt that has built up, especially after bad weather. If you notice any dirt or use a soft cloth to remove any stains or debris. It’s worth cleaning the door on a dry or warm day so it has enough time to dry.
