If you’ve ever wondered whether upgrading your front door could make a noticeable difference to your home’s warmth, the answer is a definite yes. Choosing a high-quality composite door is one of the most effective ways to boost thermal efficiency and keep draughts out.
Not only do composite doors look great, but they’re also some of the most energy efficient doors you can buy; helping you reduce heat loss, lower energy bills, and create a cosier living environment.
The energy performance of your front door plays a huge role in how comfortable and cost-effective your home is to heat. Composite doors have many features that help keep your home heated.
This is achieved through:
To dive deeper into the science, see our full guide: Are Composite Doors Energy Efficient?
Yes. While timber doors can look beautiful, they’re more prone to warping, swelling, and letting cold air through over time. Composite doors, by contrast, offer better heat retention thanks to their advanced materials and construction.
| Feature | Composite Door (Comp Door) | Wooden Door |
| Heat Retention | Excellent | Moderate |
| Draught Resistance | High | Variable |
| Weatherproofing | Excellent | Susceptible to warping/rot |
| Maintenance Needs | Low | High |
A composite door’s thermal performance comes down to its design and materials.
CoolSkin helps prevent warping and cracking, ensuring your door continues to insulate effectively year after year. This is achieved by maintaining a consistent temperature in hot weather, reducing/minimising the movement of your composite door within different temperatures.
From the tough outer skin to the dense Albasia Flacata timber core, every layer is designed to reduce heat loss. Our doors also come with an additional third seal fitted in the outer frame. This includes an additional layer of Woolpile fur gasket so that, when the door is shut, it is compressed equally around the entire frame.
Low U-values mean less heat escapes from your home, keeping it warmer in winter and cooler in summer.
Seals, gaskets, and precision-fit manufacturing eliminate draughts, even in high winds.
For doors with glass panels, triple glazing provides maximum insulation without sacrificing style.
Like any solid surface, a composite door will warm up when exposed to direct sunlight. However:
Yes. A well-made composite door, such as those from Comp Door, can significantly reduce heat loss and improve comfort.
No. If fitted correctly, composite doors are airtight and should block draughts entirely.
Yes. Composite doors generally offer superior insulation, durability, and weather resistance compared to uPVC.

I love my new comp door, it’s a golden oak wood with frame. It looks really stylish and I like the 3 little glass panels going down the door.
The door and frame are really sturdy unlike my old frame which moved if you lent on it. The door has a double lock so I feel extremely secure when in upstairs and also when in out of the house. I would recommend these doors to anyone they are a good safety investment.

I was initially drawn to Comp Door because they came across as having genuine integrity and a real desire to improve the industry with their products, placing innovation before any financial incentives. Now that I have dealt with them firsthand, I can attest that this is all true. Their customer care has been incredible throughout and I can always expect a reply to any query almost immediately, which isn’t an industry norm.
